[Korea Hidden Gems] Mukho Port: Dojjaebigol Sky Valley & Haerang Observatory

Mukho Port: The Rising Star of Korea's East Coast
Dojjaebigol & Sky Valley Guide

Insights from KRIVANT, a Certified Drone Specialist in Gangneung

Panoramic view of Mukho Port and Dojjaebigol

Located just 30 minutes south of Gangneung, Mukho Port in Donghae City has undergone a stunning transformation. Once a quiet fishing harbor known for squid and charcoal, it has reinvented itself as a premier destination for thrill-seekers and art lovers alike. As a drone pilot, I find Mukho particularly fascinating because of how the rugged cliffs meet the futuristic architecture of the Dojjaebigol Sky Valley.

1. Dojjaebigol Sky Valley: Where Goblins Play

The name Dojjaebi is an old dialect word for the Korean goblin (Dokkaebi). Local legend says that these cliffs were once a playground for these mischievous spirits. Today, that legend lives on through the Sky Valley, a massive 59-meter-high structure that offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the East Sea.

Sky Valley Walkway Sky Valley Tower
  • 🚩 The Skywalk: A transparent glass floor extending out over the cliff. It's safe, but the 59-meter drop below your feet will definitely get your heart racing.
  • 🚩 Sky Cycle: A unique attraction where you pedal a bicycle on a wire high above the valley. Perfect for those seeking an adrenaline rush.
  • 🚩 Giant Slide: A 27-meter-long spiral slide that takes you from the top of the valley down to the base in seconds.

2. Haerang Observatory: Walking over the Waves

Connected via a colorful crosswalk from the Sky Valley is the Haerang Observatory. This blue-and-white walkway extends 85 meters out into the ocean. From the air, you can see that the observatory is shaped like a Goblin's Bat, staying true to the area's theme.

Haerang Observatory

The floor is made of metal mesh and glass, allowing you to see the clear, turquoise water crashing against the rocks right beneath you. It's a fantastic spot for walking on water photos and experiencing the East Sea's fresh breeze.

3. Nongoldam-gil & Mukho Lighthouse

The soul of Mukho lives in Nongoldam-gil, a labyrinth of mural-lined alleyways. These murals were painted by local artists and grandmothers to preserve the history of the town. Following the path upward leads you to the Mukho Lighthouse, built in 1963, which serves as a beacon for the entire port.
