Jeongdongjin Sun Cruise, Gangneung: Korea’s Famous Land Cruise Hotel

Jeongdongjin Sun Cruise Resort: The World’s First Luxury Cruise Ship on Land

A Unique Landmark in Gangneung, Korea - Drone Perspective & Travel Guide

If you visit Gangneung, Gangwon-do, you will encounter one of the most surreal sights in the world: a massive luxury cruise ship perched high on a coastal cliff. This is the Jeongdongjin Sun Cruise Resort. Known as the world's first land-based cruise ship hotel, it has become an iconic landmark of South Korea’s East Coast. From a drone's perspective, the sight of a 30,000-ton ship looking over the ocean is truly spectacular.

🚆 How to Get to Jeongdongjin from Seoul

Jeongdongjin is famous for having the train station closest to the sea in the world (Guinness World Record). Traveling from Seoul is very convenient thanks to the high-speed KTX-Eum train.
  • 🚅 KTX-Eum (High-Speed Train): Take the train from Seoul Station or Cheongnyangni Station directly to Jeongdongjin Station. It takes only about 2 hours.
  • 🚕 Local Transport: Once you arrive at Jeongdongjin Station, you can see the Sun Cruise Resort on the hill. It’s a 5-minute taxi ride or a 20-minute uphill walk.
  • 🚌 Express Bus: You can take a bus to Gangneung Intercity Bus Terminal and then take a local bus (No. 109 or 112) to Jeongdongjin.

1. The Spectacular Cliffside View

The resort's architecture mimics a Royal Caribbean International Sovereign Class cruise ship. Measuring 165 meters in length and 45 meters in height, it creates a powerful silhouette against the blue horizon. Drone footage captures the sheer scale of the ship integrated into the natural cliff, a feat of modern engineering and design.

2. Top Viewpoints: Sunrise & Observation

Inside the resort park, there are several themed gardens. The Sunrise Park is home to the famous 'Hand of Blessing' sculpture, a favorite spot for visitors welcoming the first light of the new year. From the sky, the park's geometric paths and sculptures create a beautiful landscape art piece surrounded by the deep blue East Sea.

🌟 Visitor's Pro-Tips

  • 🎫 Admission: You don't need to be a hotel guest to visit the park and observatory. You can purchase a park entry ticket at the entrance.
  • Sky Lounge: Visit the revolving 360-degree Sky Lounge on the top floor. You can enjoy coffee while the ship slowly rotates, providing a full view of both the sea and the mountains.
  • 🚶 Stairway to Heaven: There is a famous photo zone called "Stairway to Heaven." Be prepared to wait in line as it is the most popular Instagram spot!
  • 🛳️ Second Ship: There is a second, more modern-looking ship below the main resort called the "Sun Cruise Yacht Marina." It's great for closer sea views.

3. Drone Pilot's Paradise

Capturing the Sun Cruise Resort via drone requires careful planning due to the strong sea breezes. However, the reward is unmatched. The top-down view of the cruise ship resting on the greenery, with the white waves crashing below, is a scene that defines the beauty of Gangneung travel. Don't miss this chance to capture one of the world's most unique structures!
