Korat Zoo (Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo): The Ultimate Safari Guide & Rental Tips

Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo - Korat Safari Guide

Korat Zoo (Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo): The Ultimate Safari Guide

Exploring Thailand's vast wildlife sanctuary near Korat city.

How to Get There & Entry Info

The easiest way to reach Korat Zoo from the city center is by using Grab or Bolt. The drive takes about 20-25 minutes from the main city areas. If you are driving yourself, don't worry—the parking lot is vast and very accommodating.

🕒 Operating Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Daily

🎟️ Entry Fee (Foreigners): ~150 THB for Adults (Price may vary by season)

Essential Tip: Renting a Golf Cart

The zoo grounds are massive. While you can walk, it’s quite exhausting in the Thai heat. You can rent bicycles or golf carts (available in small and large sizes).

⚠️ DON'T FORGET YOUR LICENSE!

To rent a golf cart (approx. 300 THB for the first hour), you MUST provide a physical driver's license as a deposit. An International Driving Permit is not required; your domestic license from your home country is accepted!

What to See

The zoo hosts a wide variety of animals, from giraffes and elephants to zebras and big cats. I visited near closing time, so the park was peaceful and quiet—perfect for a relaxing drive through the safari zones.

After exploring the safari, there is even a small amusement park with rides to enjoy before you head back to the city.

Wat Ban Rai: The Surreal Elephant Temple in Korat, Thailand

Thailand Hidden Gem Series Wat Ban Rai in Korat: Inside Thailand’s Surreal Elephant Temple A long-form travel story and practical guide to one of the most unusual temples in Nakhon Ratchasima. There are temples in Thailand that impress you with age, and then there are temples that stop you in your tracks because they feel almost impossible to categorize. Wat Ban Rai , also known to many visitors as the Elephant Temple , belongs firmly in the second group. Hidden out in the countryside of Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) , it does not feel like a casual roadside stop. It feels like a place built from devotion, ambition, and an almost fearless sense of imagination. What makes this place memorable is not only the giant elephant-shaped structure rising over the water, but the sheer amount of detail packed into every surface. From a distance it already looks theatrical. Up close, it becomes even stranger and more impressive:...
