Pokémon Mega Festa 2026 in Seongsu, Seoul: Waitlist Tips, Route & Pop-Up Guide Pokémon Mega Festa 2026 is one of the biggest Seoul pop-up events of the season, with several Pokémon-themed venues spread across Seoul Forest and Seongsu. The 800-Year-Old Golden Giant: Jangdeok-ri Ginkgo Tree in Gangneung

A Majestic Living Heritage and the Guardian of a Peaceful Village

Aerial view of Jangdeok-ri Ginkgo Tree

Deep in the quiet farming village of Jangdeok-ri in Gangneung stands a majestic giant that has watched over the land for more than 800 years. The Jangdeok-ri Ginkgo Tree, designated as Natural Monument No. 166, is a breathtaking sight that reaches its peak beauty in autumn. When the entire canopy transforms into a brilliant golden cloud, it becomes one of the most significant and spiritually symbolic ancient trees in the Gangwon region.

1. A Massive Symmetrical Canopy from the Sky

The Jangdeok-ri Ginkgo Tree is renowned for its remarkably balanced and dense foliage. Standing about 26 meters tall with a girth of nearly 10 meters, its branches spread out symmetrically in all directions. From a drone's perspective, the tree resembles a colossal yellow flower blooming amidst the traditional rooftops. This perfect symmetry is rare for a tree of this age, making it a true masterpiece of nature.

2. The Legendary Guardian and the White Snake

For centuries, the villagers have revered this tree as a sacred guardian. Local folklore tells a story of a white snake that lives within the ancient trunk, protecting it from fire and storms. Next to its massive roots, you will find a traditional Korean pavilion (gazebo), where locals gather to share stories under its vast shade. It is also known as a "female" tree, famous for producing a bountiful harvest of ginkgo nuts each year.

3. A Tranquil Autumn Journey in Gangneung

Visiting Jangdeok-ri provides a serene escape from the busy tourist hubs of Gangneung. The sight of the giant golden tree standing tall against the deep blue autumn sky is a quintessential Korean experience. For the best views, visit during early November when the leaves are at their brightest. The peaceful atmosphere of the surrounding rice fields and traditional fences makes it a perfect spot for "slow travel."

Where to Eat in Okinawa: 7 Food Stops I Actually Loved

Okinawa has plenty of famous food spots, but not every place actually feels worth your time once you get there. These were the food stops that stood out to me during the trip, from mazemen in Naha to cheap conveyor-belt sushi in Chatan and taco rice near the airport. Some places were planned, some were accidental, and a few were so good that I would happily go back. Quick note before you go This post mixes small local spots and well-known chains . For some independent restaurants, a live official menu was not clearly published online, so I used a current price guide instead of pretending every exact menu number was fixed. For chains and official facility-linked stores, I used the latest details I could verify. 1) Mazemen Mahoroba in Naha I originally wanted to eat at the very popular Danbo ramen, but the line was too long, so I gave up and came here instead. That turned out to be a very good decis...
